MEME & PAPA'S CABIN

Nestled along the shoreline of quiet Gull Lake yet within 20 minutes of the National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame in Hayward, Meme & Papa's Cabin offers the ideal location for getaways of any kind.

After your first stay, there's absolutely no doubt that you will be counting down the days until you can return.

Our Story

Originally named "Gramp's Cabin" in honor of the late Ken Grelyak, this lakeside beauty was opened on Gull Lake in 2000 as a vacation destination for those intent on fishing, water sports, hunting, or just getting out into the great outdoors. Ken managed the property alongside his wife, Donna, until his passing in 2015. In keeping with her husband's love for Gull Lake, Donna continued maintaining and renting "Gramp's Cabin" until selling the property to Alex & Kaylie Cavender in 2020.

Since then, the Cavender family has been hard at work revitalizing various aspects of the property while maintaining its cozy nature and years of hard-bought character.  Among those changes, the Cavenders have decided to begin a new chapter in the history of "Gramp's Cabin" by renaming it "Meme & Papa's Cabin" in honor of their grandparents, Roger and Gayle Hess.

Meme & Papa's Cabin carries with it the years of memories formed by countless families at "Gramp's Cabin," while also offering the prospect of decades of new memories, experiences, and traditions yet to come.

Fishing

Gull Lake boasts an abundance of largemouth bass, northern pike, and common panfish (crappie, bluegill, & sunfish). Although a bit more rare, the persistent fisherman is also able to snag smallmouth bass,  rock bass, bullhead, and the occasional perch. With its variety of floating and submerged vegetation, the lake is accommodating to all styles of fishing.

Water Sports

With 518 acres of water and an average depth of 11 feet, Gull Lake offers a great spot for water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, kayaking, and water sports of all kinds. The quiet nature of the lake makes it an ideal location for those who are learning the ropes and might need a bit more space out on the water.

Testimonials

“Just can't thank you enough for reintroducing us to Gull Lake when you invited us to come with you for your graduation gift. Who would have ever guessed that it would lead to you purchasing this property.

We hope nothing other than the best for you and your entire family.

Your kindness showed to us will never be forgotten.”

Meme & Papa, 2021

“We enjoyed our stay on Gull Lake and your cabin made us feel right at home. The fishing was good. Biggest bass (17.5, 17, 17, 17, 16, 15, 15, 15). Biggest northern (29, 28, 24, 23).

We used to come to Gull Lake every summer, from 1978 to 2003, staying at Shady Lane Resort. Now, with no resorts on the lake, we are excited to have this opportunity again with Gramp's Cabin.”

Randy & Cindy, 2021
